To go serve while encouraging one another through Christian love. As you plan your visit, below are some things to know. What is the worship service like? Our services last about an hour and fifteen minutes. Our music style is a blend of current contemporary praise & worship and the great hymns of faith. We have a praise team backed by our worship choir. We use a variety of instruments, including horns, percussion, keyboards, acoustic and electric guitars. We teach biblical truths using drama, videos, personal stories, and preaching. What do I wear? Our members and guests typically dress casual. You will find anything from coat and tie to flip flops and T-shirt. Dress modest but to your comfort. Can I become a church member? Our church membership is made up of professing Christians dedicated to biblical truths. You become a member of the church by a Transfer of Membership, Profession of Faith and Baptism, or by a Statement of Faith after attending a one session new members class and meeting briefly with a staff member. Can I serve as a volunteer at church? Yes, there are hundreds of service opportunities within the church and out in the community. We believe every person has gifts and talents that are to be used to serve others. Are you associated with any particular denomination? Yes, we are part of the Southern Baptist Convention (sbc.net ), an organization with more than 16 million members from over 42,000 churches dedicated to sharing the good news of God's love with people around the world in cooperation of like faith. We also cooperate with the Southern Baptists of Texas (sbtexas.com ) convention. What activities do you have for children? We offer a comprehensive ministry to children from birth through 5th grade that includes age specific classes on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. There are also various special events throughout the summer. Ultimately everything we do for children is centered on the concept of Faith@Home. What activities do you have for students? Our Student Ministry includes 6th through 12th graders. Our students meet in classes on Sunday morning and have a mid-week worship service and Bible study on Wednesday evenings. Do you have a singles ministry? Yes, we have Sunday classes for college-age through older singles. How do I become a Christian? Do you know for certain where you will spend eternity? The Bible records Jesus as saying, "God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16 NIV) . . . but what does that mean? God's Plan is that we spend eternity with Him. We receive eternal life as a free gift from a loving God. "The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:23) What are Your Beliefs? The Bible We believe the Bible is the Word of God. Every word in the original writings is inspired by God and is without error. It is accurate in all matters to which it speaks - spiritual, historical, and scientific. It is the supreme and final authority for faith and life. God We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, each of whom possesses equally all the attributes of Deity and the characteristics of personality. Jesus Christ We believe that Jesus Christ is God's Son. He was miraculously born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died to atone for the sins of human beings, was buried, bodily arose from the grave, ascended into heaven and will personally return to establish His kingdom on the earth. The Holy Spirit We believe that the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Godhead, convicts people of sin, regenerates, baptizes, indwells, seals, and empowers believers for holy living. Human Beings We believe that human beings are the special creations of God, made in His image. They fell through the sin of the first man, Adam, and are all born with a sinful nature. All human beings are sinners, separated from God, in need of salvation. The Church We believe the church is a local body of baptized believers with the Lord Jesus Christ as the Head. It exists to worship and serve God, encourage believers in their spiritual growth and share the good news of God’s forgiveness with all people. Salvation We believe salvation is the gift of God. It is received by expressing repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ. Every person who truly is saved is eternally secure in Jesus Christ and will spend eternity in heaven, while those who die in their sins will spend eternity in hell. Baptism We believe baptism is an act of obedience for the believer. It is by immersion after salvation and is done in obedience to Jesus Christ's command. Porter First KIDS KIDS Ministry The purpose of the Porter First Kids is to bring children into age appropriate worship where they can belong to the family of God, to grow in their relationship with Jesus, to learn to serve and then go share Jesus to the community they live in. Life Groups LIFE KIDS is the Sunday morning Bible study for children birth through 5th grade. LIFE KIDS meet every Sunday morning at 9:15am to 10:15am. All children from birth through 5th grade are registered at the welcome centers in the nursery, preschool and grade school areas. You will receive two name tags with your child’s name on it. You will keep one the other goes on your child. This name tag is your security tag to pick up your child at the end of each service. Through the guidance of nurturing instructors, kids grow to love God and learn more about Him. All preschoolers are registered at the welcome center in the nursery area on the first floor. Porter FBC FIRST KIDS Children’s caters to children from birth to 5th grade. How do you ensure the safety and security of the children during activities? Children birth through kindergarten is received at a welcome counter in which the child will be registered for that activity. When the child is registered a nametag will be printed and placed on the child. In addition the parent/guardian will be give an identification tag. This identification tag MUST be presented in order to receive your child. Children first thru fifth grade are checked in and given a nametag. The Minister of Children can only release the child to a parent picking up the child. Are background checks conducted on volunteers working with children? Yes, every paid employee and volunteer goes through a vetting process that includes a criminal background check, Ministry Safe training and interview. What are the programs and activities available for children? Every Sunday at 9:15am birth thru fifth graders attend an age and/or grade appropriate Bible study called LIFE Kids. Every Sunday children under the age 3 at 10:30 are taken care of in extended session childcare. Every Sunday at 10:30 children age 3 to 5 participate in their very own worship service called KIDS JAM, JR. Every Sunday at 10:30 children in grades first thru fifth grade participate in their very own worship service called KIDS JAM. Every Wednesday night at 6:30 children birth thru 5 years of age participate in various age appropriate Bible study activities. Every Wednesday night at 6:30 children in grades first thru fifth grade participate in Wednesday Night Kids Ministry Bible Study called GEAR UP”. Is there a registration process for children to participate? Yes, every Sunday and Wednesday night activity child are enrolled in each program and checked in. Visitors are asked to fill out a guest registration form in which that child will be enrolled in that activity. Other activities that do not take place on a Sunday or Wednesday parents will be asked to enroll their child for that program or activity online. Are there any special events or outings planned for children throughout the year? Yes, yearly events such as VBS, Easter Events and Summer Camp and Christmas Events in addition to many other special events that take place through the year. You can find out about these planned activities on the children’s ministry events page. Is there a dedicated space or room for nursing mothers? Yes, there is a private, quiet, and comfortable room dedicated for nursing mothers. Are there any fees associated with the programs and activities associated with the children’s ministry? Most children events are free however some events there may be a nominal fee to participate. The most expensive children’s ministry event is CentriKid Children’s Camp for third thru fifth graders that can cost between $50 to $200 depending on the amount of funds is raised during the annual fundraising event. Can visitors observe any of the children’s ministry programs and activities before committing to regular attendance? Yes, any parent whether they are a guest or member of PFBC can observe or participate in any children’s ministry program, event or activity. What curriculum or teaching materials do you use for children’s classes? PFBC FIRST KIDS Children’s Ministry uses the following curriculum: Sunday LIFE KIDS at 9:15 (birth thru fifth grades): The Gospel Project by LifeWay Publishing Sunday KIDS JAM, JR at 10:30 (ages 3 to 5): Lil’K by KidMo.
